This crystal is a type of marble and its name originally came from the sculptors who were using it.  It was named Picasso-Marble because the sculptors thought that the colors and patterns in the stone resembled Pablo Picasso's work.  It is also known as Picasso Stone or Picasso Jasper even though it is not really a Jasper.  Marble is crystallized dolomite or calcium carbonate and is a type of metamorphosed limestone.
