Growing up in Gaylord, Michigan, I remember collecting stones from all over Northern Michigan. I have always loved collecting stones—they were little treasures to me.

Some of my earliest memories are of my family taking my Grandma Johnson to Whitefish Point on Lake Superior to collect stones. We would spend the entire day searching the shoreline, all while trying to survive the sting of the black flies that seemed determined to carry us away!

Not everyone shares my enthusiasm for rough stones, so I became a lapidary artist and jewelry designer. I taught myself the skills of lapidary and silversmithing so that I could reveal the beauty hidden inside these little treasures and share them with others.

From Stone Collector to Lapidary Artist

Stone Treasures by the Lake grew from that lifelong love of collecting and working with natural stones. I cut and shape my own cabochons, allowing me to bring out the colors, patterns and natural character that first attracted me to each stone.

My online jewelry shop features Petoskey Stone cabochons and jewelry, along with a diverse assortment of stones from Michigan and around the world.

Every cabochon featured on my website is cut and shaped by me. For me, working with a stone isn't simply about making something beautiful. It's about discovering what is already there and finding the best way to showcase it.

Handmade Michigan Stone Jewelry

I create stone cabochons for wire wrappers, jewelry artists, jewelry designers, silversmiths, collectors and anyone who simply loves beautiful stones.

Because not everyone is a jewelry artist, I also create finished handcrafted jewelry that allows these natural treasures to be enjoyed and worn. I am a self-taught silversmith and set my designer cabochons in custom silver, brass, copper and bronze settings. Commercially available settings, with and without handcrafted cabochons, are also available.
