Cactus Agate

Agate is a rock consisting primarily of cryptocrystalline silica, chiefly chalcedony, alternating with microgranular quartz. It is characterized by its fineness of grain and variety of color. Although agates may be found in various kinds of host rock, they are classically associated with volcanic rocks and can be common in certain metamorphic rocks.

Agate gets it’s name from the place where it was first located in ancient Sicily. The philosopher Theophrastus found an agate stone when walking along the shore of the river Achates.  Ancient Islamic cultures believed that agate could ward off the evil eye and tragedies. Babylonians believed that agate properties could be used to dispel evil energy.
